Gaining Greater Network Efficiency at Lower Cost

Power utilities and other energy-related organizations have long made use of cellular connectivity in their operations. They use it to monitor power continuity, balance loads, ensure public safety and enable the smart grid. Capturing data at the edge of the network is a significant part of that cellular strategy. But uploading all of the data from the field can be overkill, since so many of the readings are virtually identical. This “heartbeat data” makes a strong case for edge computing models that can distinguish between data that says “all is well” and conditions that demand your attention.
